Asseco has launched documentation exchange system at ZUS

Since July 1, 2019, the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) has been using a new information exchange system - Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI) - which is to ensure cooperation with nearly 15,000 social security institutions from 32 EU/EFTA countries. From the technological point of view, this was one of the largest modifications of the IT system at ZUS. Asseco Poland was responsible for the implementation of the project.

The new solution enables the exchange of information and electronic documents, including data necessary to verify membership in the social security system, grant and pay international benefits: pensions, allowances and compensation, as well as recover unpaid contributions and overpaid benefits in other European Union countries.

The launch of the EESSI system is a large and important implementation on a national scale. ZUS and Asseco put a huge effort into making ZUS one of the first institutions in Europe to be ready to exchange information electronically. Until now, the whole process of transferring them was mainly paper-based and required time-consuming translation of documentation, which significantly prolonged the ongoing proceedings. Thanks to EESSI, the procedures will be significantly shortened, which means that many Poles working abroad and foreigners working in Poland will be able to settle their matters faster, said Sławomir Szmytkowski, Vice President of the Management Board, Asseco Poland.

It was a very complex and technically complicated project. No previous modification of KSI required such a large number of changes. The majority of them concerned the key modules of the Comprehensive Information System (KSI ZUS). The main element built from scratch was the so-called National Application, i.e. a module responsible for conducting dozens of information exchange processes. We estimate that it will support the handling of about 1.5 million cases annually, said Arkadiusz Wójcik, Director of the Social Insurance Division at Asseco Poland.

Asseco signed the agreement for the modification of the Comprehensive Information System (KSI ZUS) and its adaptation to the electronic exchange of information and documents in 2017. The value of the project amounts to over PLN 20 million gross.
